The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét is strengthening its role in the global production network by integrating new models into series production. Series production of models for the new MMA platform (Mercedes Modular Architecture) will start in 2024, while series production of a pure electric model for the MB.EA platform (Mercedes-Benz Electric Architecture) will start in 2025. This will involve the construction of a new assembly line and body production line, with the surface treatment and painting process also relying entirely on renewable energy sources. As part of its current investment plan, Mercedes-Benz is investing more than €1 billion to prepare its plant for future challenges.
Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG Production & Supply Chain Management together with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and Christian Wolff, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft., presented the plans for the future of the plant at a ceremony on 21 July 2022 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét.
"The new product strategy of the Mercedes-Benz Group and the new distribution of models will secure the future of the Kecskemét plant. It also confirms the excellent performance of our highly qualified and motivated team in recent years and gives us all a promising vision for the future. The Kecskemét plant is thus strategically prepared for the challenges of the future and will be able to respond with maximum flexibility to changing customer needs. In the medium term, the investment will create many new jobs in the region and offer our existing employees excellent opportunities for further development," – said Christian Wolff, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft.
