Hungary's pure electric series produced car, the new compact SUV model, the EQB was launched at a ceremony in Kecskemét in October 2021. The Mercedes-Benz production lines in Kecskemét now include all drive systems, from classic combustion engines and plug-in hybrids to pure electric ones. The production of the pure electric compact SUV in Kecskemét is an important milestone for the Hungarian plant and also a guarantee that the Hungarian site will remain an important pillar of Mercedes-Benz Cars' flexible global production network in the long term.
As part of the transformation of the Mercedes-Benz production network towards the production of electric cars and digitalization, a total investment of more than €100 million has been made at the Kecskemét plant. The team in Kecskemét has succeeded in integrating the production of the new cars into the daily processes very quickly. In addition, all the test phases required before series production were completed in record time, in less than a year. The first electric model is being produced on the already existing production lines. In the context of the production of the all-electric model, the factory staff have attended various training courses. The latest generation of high-efficiency bodywork production lines has been built on a part of the hall measuring only 17,000 square metres.
